As Hurricane Erin continues to move out to sea and remains a fish storm, coastal areas will need to watch out for gusty winds and overwash along Highway 12 through sunrise Friday. Erin is moving swiftly to the NE at 20 mph, as a Category 2 with winds at 100 mph. The storm is expected to be offshore of Canada by Friday as a Category 1 with winds around 85 mph, then weakening next week as a remnant low.

Beach erosion will also be possible, and the beaches may disappear under waves as the wind and wave heights increase from high tide. All beaches are expected to have red flags through Friday.

What does it mean for the U.S. and Eastern NC?

We’ll see a break of tropical activity as we head into this weekend and over the next week for Eastern NC. The only rain chance in the forecast is Sunday
