PORTER COUNTY — Porter County took a big step forward in enhancing its public safety last week by installing the first of five new automated external defibrillators across the county.

The new AED was installed last Friday and is located at Valparaiso's Central Park Plaza, near the Northwest Health Amphitheater, right next to the public bathrooms.

This initiative, part of a broader goal for the county to become a HEARTSafe community, aims to increase AED accessibility in high-traffic areas, particularly where people are traveling on foot.

Communities can become HEARTSafe places by providing widespread CPR training, making AEDs accessible and by equipping first responders and hospitals with advanced resuscitation protocols.
