A potential Alberta teacher strike has caused stress for many families with the school year set to begin early next month.

Negotiations are currently ongoing between the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) and Teachers' Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA).

This past June, 94.5 per cent of nearly 39,000 teachers voted in favour of going on strike. The ATA has 120 days following that vote to take job action, with the deadline falling on Oct. 7. The union must give 72-hour notice ahead of going on strike If teachers do decide to take job action.

"I think the biggest concern we're hearing from parents is that they don't know what to expect," said Red Deer's Meagan Parisian, vice-president of the Alberta School Councils’ Association.
