A U.S. Army veteran originally from Pakistan was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Thursday morning during his citizenship interview in Tukwila.

Muhammad Zahid Chaudhry, known to many as “Zahid,” has lived in the U.S. for about 25 years, according to his wife, Melissa Chaudhry. They have two children together, 2-year-old daughter Selma and 8-month-old son Adil.

Records show Muhammad Zahid Chaudhry is in the Northwest ICE Detention Center in Tacoma.

It’s unclear why Muhammad Zahid Chaudhry was detained, as ICE and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services did not respond to a request for comment Thursday afternoon. But his wife said he has been fighting for his naturalization since the 90s.
