CLEVELAND, Ohio — Breezy northeast winds will continue to bring dangerous conditions to Lake Erie for both swimmers and boaters Thursday throughout the day and into the evening.
As a result, both a beach hazards statement and small craft advisory remain in effect for much of the Ohio shoreline.
Forecasters warn of a high risk of rip currents in Cuyahoga, Lake and Ashtabula counties, and are advising people to stay out of the water and away from piers and breakwalls.
“Swimmers should not enter the water,” forecasters with the National Weather Service in Cleveland wrote in the beach hazards statement. “Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake.“
Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of water that rush away fro
