Crosstown rivals Righetti and Santa Maria will go at it Friday night when the 2025 Central Coast football season gets underway. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Santa Maria's Ralph Baldiviez Stadium.

The home-standing Saints will honor the 2025 Santa Maria High School Athletics Hall of Fame Class at halftime.

The rivalry has gone the visiting Warriors' way for most of this century. Righetti is 8-1 in the series between the teams since 2005. The last time a Santa Maria football team beat Righetti was in 2016.

This time around, the Saints will have to deal with senior Righetti quarterback Nick Matautia. The only returning skill position player for either side, Matautia threw for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns and just five interceptions in 2024.
