BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - A Minnesota company is planning to build two mega dairies with an estimated 37,000 cows in eastern North Dakota. Environmental groups say this could be a disaster for the environment and held a press conference in Bismarck to get the attention of state leaders.

Riverview is the company planning to quadruple the number of cows in the state.

The proposed dairies are planned for Herberg Township and Abercrombie near the Red River on the eastern border of North Dakota.

At a press conference on Thursday, environmental groups and residents aired their concerns about the new dairies, among them that nutrients from excessive animal waste will spread diseases and pollute the Red River and surrounding bodies of water.
