HATTERAS, N.C. — Brian McArthur said his family have lived on Hatteras Island for generations. Yesterday, he told 13News Now that he got caught up in the swell. A dramatic video shows the moments he fell as the ocean overwashed NC12.
McArthur said, however, that he believes it comes with the territory, and those locals in the area rally around each other to get through another hurricane.
“It was a pretty wild ride," said McArthur. “It pretty much just swept the sand right underneath my feet, I landed on my side, and slid down that hill, and ended up right in the trenches there."
He estimated about four feet of sand had overtaken the road where he was thrown to the ground.
