Playing with a purpose. Parker and Ramsay High Schools participated in the third annual Stop the Violence Classic at Legion Field.

The game coming after the type of crime that players and coaches hope to prevent.

Parker assistant coach, Demetrice Beverly, was shot and killed last week at a Birmingham apartment complex. He was remembered during Thursday’s game with a moment of silence.

From inside the stadium, a WVTM 13 crew saw what looked like a fight between fans during the game. It’s unclear if anyone was hurt, but some football fans said that’s the reason they were afraid to cheer on their favorite team—making this Stop the Violence Classic even more important.
