Grand Junction High School teacher Lisa Moot has been recognized as the 2025 Colorado History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

Each year, one educator in the state is recognized for excellence in American history education, chosen by a panel of teachers, administrators and scholars.

Moot will receive a $1,000 award, a certificate of recognition and an archive of books and historical resources. She’ll also be recognized at a state ceremony.

She plans to use the award funds to support field trips for her Colorado and U.S. History classes.

Moot was recognized at this week’s Mesa County Valley School District 51 Board of Education meeting.
