SRP is looking to double its capacity to supply electricity in the next decade to meet a growing demand.

The utility provider recently reported that it provided a peak load of 8,324 megawatts on July 9, setting a new record for energy delivered to its retail customers. One megawatt is enough energy to power about 225 average homes.

“In the next five-10 years, you’re going to see some stunning numbers from us,” Karla Moran, SRP Economic Development manager, told the Mesa Economic Development Advisory Board last week. Hundreds of miles of transmission and nearly twice the number of transformers are needed, according to Moran.
