The SEC made its move Thursday for a nine-game conference schedule starting in 2026, an announcement the rest of the college football world had been anxiously awaiting.
The decision ended a debate that has been percolating for several years and could be a key step in creating the path toward another expansion of the College Football Playoff.
The change, previously recommended by SEC athletic directors, was approved by conference presidents and chancellors Thursday.
