Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo has agreed to an eight-year, $67 million contract extension, according to reports. The club has not confirmed.

The extension for Basallo, who is the club's top-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline , comes five days after he made his big league debut in Houston. In four games, he has recorded five RBIs with a .286 average.

With catcher Adley Rutschman going on the injured list with an oblique strai n, the 21-year-old Basallo will serve as the primary catcher.
