NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WAVE) - Floyd County health leaders are tracking another group of mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The virus was discovered in a mosquito sample taken on Aug. 3. The health department said no human cases have been found so far in the county.

Health officials said people who become infected with West Nile Virus can experience mild symptoms that include fevers, headaches and body aches before fully recovering, but for some, especially the elderly and immune compromised, the virus can lead to serious illness or even death.

You can protect yourself from mosquito bites by wearing bug repellent, wearing long sleeve clothing and taking care of property so it doesn’t become a hot bed for mosquitoes.
