WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The Wausau Fire Department EMS division chief facing misconduct and theft charges is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Jared Thompson was arrested on multiple counts of misconduct in public office and theft, the Department of Justice announced on Thursday.

A statement from the Wausau Fire Department says staff members raised concerns about Thompson’s misuse of a controlled substance. An investigation was done by the DOJ.

The DOJ said, according to the criminal complaint, “Thompson was solely responsible for ordering fentanyl and other controlled substances. The criminal complaint alleges that, between Jan. 1, 2025 through June 16, 2025, approximately 486 vials of hydromorphone and approximately 612 vials of fentanyl purchased by the Wausau Fire Department were e
