Picabo native and Wood River High School alum Benjamin Stout set the course record in the 100-mile run at the Standhope Ultra Challenge with a time of 20 hours, 49 minutes on July 27 at the Pioneer Mountains course east of Sun Valley.
It was Stout's first 100-mile race he has competed in.
"It was a bit of uncharted territory for me," Stout said. "I had previously ran some 50-mile races and many 50K-and-shorter races. I tried to emphasize running a lot of miles and putting in a lot of hours every week."
Stout, 31, set course records in the 60K race at 6:14:34 in 2023 and 2:56:10 in the 30K in 2017 that still stand. He thought it would be cool to break the 100-mile course record as well. Still, Stout wanted to race simply to come home from where he lives now in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and
