TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — There are fewer international students on ASU’s campus this year because of a recent federal crackdown on student visas. Hundreds of students from overseas were unable to arrive in time for the first day of classes on Thursday, and the university is having to adjust.

“There was a general sense of fear in everyone,” said ASU student Mudit Lal. While things went smoothly for him while traveling from India to ASU for his final semester, this year has been full of uncertainty.

“I definitely still know a couple of students that, that are stuck because they were not able to get a visa appointment,” said Lal. He helps guide first-year international students as they make the transition.
