A man from Greater Manchester has been banned for life from contacting a woman he harassed before trying to flee the country.

Gary Davies, 43, from Bolton has been given an indefinite court order prohibiting him from contacting the victim who reported him to the police just two weeks ago. He was recalled to prison earlier this week for breaching his licence conditions from a past conviction.

The Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO) was issued after the court heard Davies had a history of domestic offending against women dating back to 2013. It is the first indefinite order Greater Manchester Police has secured since launching the DAPOs last year.

The new type of order is being trialled in Greater Manchester as part of a national trial which started in Bury in November last year.
