A former North Iowa was arrested Thursday night in Mason City for allegedly stealing a vehicle and eluding law enforcement.

Alexander Jordan Kew, 32, Marshalltown, formerly of Mason City, was charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony; and eluding (second offense) and driving while barred, both aggravated misdemeanors.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., a deputy located a 2020 Chevrolet Trax driven by Kew that had been reported stolen the same day from Marshalltown on North Monroe Avenue, according to a press release from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, which led to a pursuit.

During the pursuit, a passenger allegedly jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot.
