An image of a bear cub in its mother's protective embrace, along with the reminder that 'Every Child Matters', was the winning design in Red Deer Polytechnic's annual Orange Shirt Day design contest.

Artist Alexandria King, RDP alumna of the Visual Arts program (2014), submitted the design that will appear on shirts available for purchase starting the first week of September at The Lift, thanks to the Students' Association of Red Deer Polytechnic.

All proceeds will go towards Indigenous student funds and initiatives.

King said she participated in the contest as an ally in solidarity of survivors of residential schools, their families and those who never made it home.
