NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Metro Public Health Department has reported Nashville’s first human case of West Nile Virus in 2025. The virus is carried by infected mosquitoes.
The infected person has no history of travel and lives in the South Nashville area, which coincides with a rise in West Nile activity in mosquitoes across Nashville.
MPHD’s Pest Management Team traps and tests mosquitoes throughout the summer season at multiple sites across the county in order to keep residents informed about West Nile Virus.

With this case being reported, MPHD is recommending residents take steps to reduce possibly contact with mosquitoes. They shared these tips to help prevent getting bitten:
