SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A former Springfield police sergeant has pleaded guilty in a domestic violence case that has drawn significant attention in the community.

Richard Allen Lewis was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to menacing and attempted strangulation. Lewis, who was initially facing a felony charge of strangulation, saw the charge reduced to a misdemeanor.

Lewis – not to be confused with the former Springfield police chief Richard Lewis – was involved in an argument with his wife over a TV show Wednesday when she called 9-1-1, according to court records.
