MARIETTA, Ga. — A generational shift may be coming to Cobb County this November. A young candidate is stepping up to challenge longtime Marietta mayor Steve Tumlin — and more than 50 years separate the two.
Sam Foster, a 24‑year‑old systems engineer, has launched his campaign to unseat the 78‑year‑old Tumlin. Foster is one of the youngest mayoral candidates in Marietta’s history and is part of a national wave of younger leaders entering local politics.
“When I talk to people, I think more than anything they want officials in office who are like them,” Foster said.
The Gen Z contender is positioning this race as a clash of generations, contrasting his ideas with those of the Baby Boomer incumbent.
