MECOSTA COUNTY — A 36-year-old woman was shot by a deputy Thursday morning after allegedly threatening law enforcement with a weapon during an incident on Hayes Road near 230th Avenue, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.

According to an Aug. 22 news release, deputies were assisting a property owner around 11:20 a.m. when the woman refused to leave, assaulted deputies, and then threatened them with a weapon, authorities said. Facing what they described as an immediate and significant threat, one of the deputies fired his weapon, striking the woman.

She was first taken to Corewell Health Big Rapids Hospital, then flown by Aeromed to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening, officials said.
