The driver accused of hitting a teenager as he got off a school bus in southwest Las Vegas this week said she didn’t see the boy until it was too late and she fled the scene because she was scared.

Yarla Valeriano-Perez, 27, was driving a gray Honda Civic Wednesday at 4:22 p.m. when she approached a Clark County School District bus stopped on Amigo Street at Abbeyfield Rose Drive with its red flashing stop signs engaged, according to a report from Metro Police.

A child, 13, was crossing the street in front of the bus when the Honda hit the boy, lifting him onto the car’s hood and windshield and projecting him onto the road, the report stated.
