BLUE HILL -- Since the early 90s, one Blue Hill band has been bringing the community together through the sounds of the steel drum.
Flash! in the Pans is comprised of around 40 community members.
The origins of the steelpan can be traced back to Trinidad and Tobago, where it's the island's national instrument.
According to the band's director, Martin Conte, the band plays a wide range of music.
"You name it, we've tried it," said Conte.
That music includes classical pieces, jazz, Latin, pop, funk, and calypso.
"A pan dance for whatever reason brings toddlers, 4-5 year olds, teenagers, parents, and the elderly, all onto the same dance floor co-existing and cohabitating very peacefully and very happily in the same space, which is very rare," said Conte. "It's really a totally unique
