SHEEPSHEAD BAY — THE CITY DEPARTMENT of Transportation has completed a $1.2 million restoration of the Ocean Avenue Pedestrian Bridge, officially reconnecting Sheepshead Bay and Manhattan Beach at a ribbon cutting on the refreshed historic span on Thursday.
First built in 1880 and reconstructed in 1930, the 400-foot wooden bridge received a full deck and railing replacement, structural repairs and new decorative lighting. The work, finished this spring, was funded through $750,000 secured by former Assemblymember Steven Cymbrowitz with additional DOT support.
Officials hailed the project as both a preservation effort and a vital community connector. Read here for full Brooklyn Eagle coverage .
