Coin dealers and collectors are being urged to stay alert after a shipment of more than 3,200 ounces of silver was reported missing, Canadian Coin News reports.
According to the publication, London-based Coin Canada said the shipment was last accounted for on Aug. 11 while en route to the Royal Canadian Mint. The load contained an estimated 3,212.5 ounces of silver in both bullion bars and collectible coins.
At today’s Canadian silver price of $54 an ounce, the shipment’s value tops $173,000, according to GoldBroker.
Canadian Coin News reports that the missing items include:
Seven 100 oz. Royal Canadian Mint bars
One 100 oz. JBR bar
One 100 oz. Englehard bar
Three 100 oz. Johnson Matthey bars
Two 50 oz. Johnson Matthey bars
1,375 silver Maple Leaf coins, mostly mylar sealed
