BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Canisius University is welcoming the largest freshman class they've had in three years, and they believe something that's driving this enrollment growth is the "Buffalo Promise Scholarship."
"This is something we announced last year and it was really our commitment to Buffalo, keeping real smart, hard-working, talented students here in Buffalo," said Steve Stoute, the president of the university. "I think one of the things I learned in my first years as president was this 'brain drain:' really good students who are leaving Buffalo and Western New York to pursue their college education outside of the region and not always coming back."
Students who applied for the scholarship had to be in the 142 zip code and have a household income of $125,000 or less. More than 5
