CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - Chesterfield County and the Chesterfield County Planning Commission warn residents of an email scam targeting some residents, which falsely claims to be from the planning commission.

These emails, sent from planning.chesterfield.gov@usa.com , reference a “conditional use approval fee” that is fake and not from Chesterfield County or its Planning Commission.

County officials say the scam can look official because it includes skimmed information from publicly available zoning documents and looks legit at first glance.

However, these emails are not associated with the county in any way.

As with many types of phishing, the emails are intended to cause a panic response and spur a quick reaction.
