Before the magic Fall Garden Season begins, let’s talk about how we can assure a tomato harvest. Tomatoes are loved by way too many insects and, depending on the temperature, these enemies of the tomato may attack in weekly waves, with a different crowd holding a party each week!
If you have been following me for any part of the last 20 plus years that I have been writing for The Monitor, you know I like to avoid using chemicals on food crops. Anything I might cut, including flowers, and bring into my home or a plant that my pets or grandkids might touch should be as close to organically grown as possible. So, with that in mind, I look for ways to repel insects, distract insects with a promise of something better, or keep them from receiving an invitation to my tomato party all together.
