SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) - Police say an officer-involved shooting in Vermont has left a New Hampshire man dead.

It happened at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at a home at 78 Valley Street in Springfield.

Troopers say members of the Springfield police and the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department went to the house as part of an open investigation.

When the officers arrived, they said a man in a car outside the home accelerated toward them, and two officers opened fire on him.

Police identified the man as James Crary, 36, of Newport, New Hampshire. They say he was hit by gunfire and died at the scene.

No law enforcement members were injured in the incident.

Troopers say the officers who fired their guns were Springfield Police Ofc. Vincent Franchi and Windsor County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryan Jala
