A Tennessee man was indicted this month by a federal grand jury, accused of using the names of deceased and retired professional baseball players, some who played in St. Louis, in a fraud scheme, according to a Justice Department release .
What's more, the man, George Herman Ruth, shares the same legal name as baseball great Babe Ruth.
Ruth, 69, of Morristown, Tennessee, allegedly used the names of hundreds of baseball players to submitted fraudulent claim forms to class action lawsuit settlement administrators. He also used the Social Security numbers of unwitting victims and used a sham business to "obtain an account through which he laundered the proceeds."
Ruth obtained or attempted to obtain more than $550,000 through the scheme, according to the indictment.
