VAN BUREN, Mo. (KFVS) - 21 Drive-In Theatre in Van Buren is closed for the season following a severe storm.

Photos posted to Facebook show the damage caused by a straight-line wind storm on August 18.

Nearly 85% of the screen and substructure were ruined; the marquee was also destroyed.

Jeffrey Riggs, owner and operator of the 73-year-old theatre, said this was a seasonal setback, but the outpour of community support has been positively overwhelming.

“We didn’t need something like this to happen to know what that place means to people, the people who it means a great deal to. They tell us about it every time they come in,” said Riggs.

“I’m always told how much they appreciate that we’re, you know, keeping the place alive and hear stories periodically from time to time,” Riggs continu
