FLINT, MI — About 85 athletes participated in the annual Lois Craig Invitational, the Crim’s Special Olympics event, which is part of the 48th HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races.

They ran heat after heat with a whole lot of heart, starting before the bridge at Riverbank Park in downtown Flint on Friday, Aug. 22.

The event kicked off at 6 p.m. on Saginaw Street with the Swartz Creek marching band. Participants lined up behind the band and waved to the crowd during a ceremonial march for the crowd.

“I think this run brings people together,” said Pat Peters, Special Olympics Michigan Area 13 director. “It shows the commitment from the community that they are totally here for us. They’re here every year, and that means a lot to us and especially to the athletes.
