Cape Fear opened the 2025 high school football season with a 42-0 rout of Douglas Byrd, delivering Jake Thomas his 100th win as Colts head coach.

Senior receiver Chosen Wynn snagged a touchdown catch a little over a minute into the game, and the rout was on. Landon Underwood scored for the Colts, Darian Kariotis added a pick-6 from Byrd's 1-yard line, and Rodrick Williams Jr. added another score to put Cape Fear up 28-0 with 4:39 left in the first quarter.
