The NCHSAA high school football season has kicked off, and Fayetteville-area football started with a bang, as Terry Sanford hosted reigning 3A East champion Seventy-First for a season-opening showdown.
The two teams hadn't played since a playoff matchup in 2022, and this one did not disappoint.
It was a hay-making, big-swinging match all game long, but it came down to the wire as senior QB Jacob Moore drove the Bulldogs downfield and sophomore kicker Tyce Thurman nailed a 30-yard field goal as time expired to hand the Falcons their first regular-season loss since 2021 with a 46-44 Terry Sanford win.
