They call this five-game event on Friday and Saturday the “KDKA Kickoff Classic.” North Allegheny and Woodland Hills took the last word to heart.

And as season openers go, NA vs. Woody Hills was as close to a classic as you can get.

They seesawed back and forth with the lead all night. North Allegheny scored the winning touchdown on a fourth-down play with 50 seconds left, and the Woodland Hills kid they call “Scoop” had North Allegheny fans with their hearts in their throat on the final play of the game.

But when Scoop Smith was knocked out of bounds just 10 yards short of the goal line, North Allegheny had a 28-26 victory Friday evening at the Wolvarena in Turtle Creek.
