Nearly a year after Hurricane Helene brought catastrophic flooding to East Tennessee , Great Smoky Mountains National Park continues its work to recover. The work of restoring historic buildings has been a sensitive one.

The Colquitt Foundation donated $750,000 to the nonprofit Friends of the Smokies to save damaged historic buildings at the national park, especially in the Cataloochee Valley section.

“Cataloochee Valley is a jewel for our entire region. Its cultural, historical, environmental and recreational value is something that cannot be replaced. On behalf of our 150+ Haywood County team members, we are honored to make this contribution,” Annie Colquitt, co-founder of the Colquitt Foundation, said in a news release.
