If you have driven past Interstate 275 in Fort Wright recently, you have probably noticed a massive structure rising from the ground and wondered what it is.

In reality, it’s a 10.5 million-gallon water storage tank that will play a major role in keeping Northern Kentucky’s waterways cleaner.

The project, called the Lakeview EQ Tank, is being built by SD1 — the Sanitation District of Northern Kentucky. Lydia Watkins, SD1’s senior director of engineering, said the tank is designed to hold excess flow during big rain events, when stormwater overwhelms the sewer system and untreated sewage can spill into local creeks and rivers.
