Now that it is late in August there are a few smaller jobs you can do in the garden.
Because of the heat and lack of rain, insects will start to show their work on plants that are stressed. Now is the time to look for grubs in the lawn. Areas of dead grass will start to show up. The grass will have no roots attached to blades. If you flip over a square of soil you will likely find white grubs about a 1/2 inch in length. As soon as the weather cools in September, you will want to add another round of nematodes to your lawn and garden to help kill off eggs and larva.
It is also a good time to clean up leaf litter.
