PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Taking special precautions, Peoria fire crews rescued the driver of an electric vehicle after a crash Friday morning between the EV and a pickup truck.

First responders were called about 7:30 a.m. to the 7900 block of North Orange Prairie Road in Northwest Peoria.

The driver of the pickup truck was able to get out of this vehicle, but rescuers used cutters and spreaders to remove the other driver from the EV, said Battalion Chief Larry Carter.

Both drivers were transported to local hospitals, but their conditions are not being released.

Chief Carter said firefighters stayed at the scene for an “extended amount of time” to prevent the EV from catching fire and to isolate the EV’s power.
