The much ballyhooed Palm Desert defense did more than its share as the Aztecs opened the high school football season with an impressive 23-12 home victory over Brawley on Friday.

Remember, this is a Brawley team that had its way with the Aztecs last year in a 36-20 victory. But this night was all Aztecs. In fact, the final score wasn't indicative of the thoroughness of the victory as Palm Desert led 23-0 with 2:45 to go in the game.
