MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- On Sept. 8, the National Council of Jewish Women/Cleveland turns 131 years old.
The date also marks the group’s 131st annual meeting of the fiscal year, where the topic will be “The Science of Happiness,” presented by Dr. Laurie Santos, professor of psychology at Yale University.
NCJW is the oldest Jewish organization in Cleveland, with approximately 1,400 active members from all across the state.
Some of the causes the group advocates for are literacy, support for sexual assault victims and clothing for underserved children.
The council was created after a humiliating incident at the Chicago World’s Fair.
