SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
A new report by the Children's Advocacy Institute, part of the University of San Diego School of Law, says that some of the world's major social media companies may be defying California law.
Specifically, the report is looking at the implementation of reporting for child sex exploitation and cyberbullying. The companies were to have online and mobile app mechanisms for reporting issues under AB 1394 and SB 1504. The companies even got a year extension to develop their reporting apps.
The report looks at four of the largest social media platforms: TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. The report's key findings were that, "Reporting pathways are often hidden behind multiple menus, vague terminology, and unclear steps—requiring 5 to 7 clicks or more."
