NEW YORK -- Coco Gauff said she experienced some fear of missing out on the U.S. Open Mixed Doubles event this week, but believes the tournament needs to make some “changes” in the controversial format going forward.

The Open was criticized in some quarters for allowing only one pure Mixed Doubles team -- defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori of Italy -- in the 16-team, $1 million event while prioritizing the world’s top singles players in a two-day event that ran the week before the singles begins Sunday.
