Aspen Film staved off the threat of the Isis Theatre closing permanently after a successful summer season and increased fundraising efforts, its board said.
The nonprofit organization told Aspen City Council in January that the Isis Theatre, which was first converted into a movie house in 1912, was at risk of closing permanently this year without significant fundraising and operational changes. But since then, Aspen Film leaders have raised enough money to sustain the theater and give the organization more time to create a long-term plan to keep the theater operational, Nic DuBrul, vice chair of the Aspen Film board, said.
