KALAMAZOO, MI — A resident who moved out of Kalamazoo years ago returned this week, delivering 50 air purifiers to help people breathe easier.

Brandi Crawford-Johnson, who now lives in min-Michigan, made the rounds in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, Aug. 20, dropping off air purifiers at schools, day cares and homes.

She’s advocated for action to stop the proliferation of toxic gas, like hydrogen sulfide, in neighborhoods north of downtown Kalamazoo — a problem confirmed by state health researchers in 2023 .

Her latest action was to go to the streets, delivering the large Medify air purifiers by U-Haul.

When she asked county health officials for help, they handed over the leftover purifiers from a different program so she could distribute them in her former neighborhood.
