HONOLULU (Island News) -- There is no tsunami threat for Hawaii after an 8.0 magnitude earthquake was reported in the Drake Passage .
The earthquake hit Drake Passage, located between South America and Antarctica, at 4:36 p.m. HST on Aug. 21, 2025. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10.8 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The National Weather Service confirmed that the state is not under a tsunami watch.
