CUMBERLAND GAP, Tenn. — Football fans returned to Cumberland Gap High School Friday for the start of the high school football season, but the night was about more than football.

"Spent a lot of time seven days a week during football season," Delynn Cline said.

Cline was the first ever football coach for Cumberland Gap when the school opened in the early 2000s. He is also the winningest coach in Cumberland Gap and Powell Valley history.

Doug Barnard grew up with Delynn.

"Delynn was a player that, in my opinion, was the best player in the history of this school," Bernard said.

Not only do friends say he was a great coach and player, but he was also a role model.

Kent Hatmaker is the athletic director at Cumberland Gap, and he also played for Cline.
